Legacy handover
Taking over someone's archive
If someone close to you has passed away and you'd like to take over managing their LifeMuseo profiles — as their named legacy contact, their next of kin, or the executor of their estate — here's exactly how that works.
Step 1
Create a free account
If you don't already have a LifeMuseo login, sign up first — it's free, and takes a minute. A handover request needs to be tied to a real account of yours, since that's where the profiles will end up.
Step 2
Submit a request
Once you're logged in, go to Profile & Settings and look for “Requesting to take over someone else's archive?” under Legacy contact. You'll need the email address they used for LifeMuseo, and your relationship to them — a child, a named legacy contact, an executor, and so on.
Step 3
We review it, and likely ask for proof
Every request is checked by a real person, not approved automatically. We aim to reach a decision within 14 working days. We'll usually be in touch by email asking for something like a death certificate, grant of probate, or similar — whatever's reasonable for the situation.
Step 4
The profiles transfer to your account
Once approved, everything moves directly into your “My profiles” — memories, photos, stories, family tree, all of it, exactly as it was left. Nothing is deleted or reset in the process.
