What is this, exactly?

What is LifeMuseo?

A private place to build a lasting record of a life - memories, photos, voice recordings, family history, held together in one considered space. Less a feed you scroll, more a museum exhibit: curated, permanent, made to be visited rather than refreshed.

Is this social media?

No - deliberately not. There's no algorithmic feed, no like counts, no strangers stumbling across you, and no pressure to post today because you posted yesterday. Nothing you add expires or gets buried by the next thing. It's there when you want it, exactly as you left it.

Who is it for?

Three overlapping groups, really. People building their own archive as they go, so it doesn't quietly disappear with a broken phone or a forgotten password somewhere else. People recording a living parent, grandparent or relative's story, ideally while they're still around to help fill in the gaps. And people preserving the memory of someone who's already gone, often gathering photos and stories from everyone who knew them, not just one person's memory of them.

For yourself and living family

Can I create a profile for someone else, like my mum or dad?

Yes. You can manage profiles for family members alongside your own, all from a single account - they don't need their own login unless they want one.

Can the person I'm building a profile for take it over themselves?

Yes, at any time. You can invite them to their own account, or hand over full control of the profile outright.

Will people know I've added something?

Only if you choose to share it. Nothing is broadcast by default - privacy is set per memory, not once for everything.

For those no longer with us

Can I build an archive for someone who's already passed away?

Yes - this is one of the most common reasons people come to LifeMuseo. You can add memories, photos and stories yourself, and invite others who knew them to add their own.

I'm not their closest family member - can I still contribute?

Whoever manages the profile controls who else can add to it. If nobody's managing it yet and you believe you're the right person to (as next of kin, executor, or similar), you can submit a request to take it over, with supporting documents if you have them. Every request is reviewed individually by a person, not approved automatically.

What happens to an archive when the account holder eventually passes away?

You can name a legacy contact ahead of time, and that person can formally request to take over the archive when the time comes. Nothing is ever automatically deleted, and every handover request goes through the same manual review - there's no way to take control of someone's archive just by asking.

Privacy

Who can actually see what I add?

You choose, per item: private to just you, shared with people you're connected to, or public. There's no single global setting forcing everything one way.

Can strangers find my profile?

Only if you've explicitly made it public. There's no discovery feed putting people's private archives in front of people who don't know them.

Membership and what happens if you downgrade

What's included for free?

Enough to properly use LifeMuseo, not just a taste of it - memories, a small family tree, a few connections, and the core archive tools, all free.

What does Plus add?

Room to grow without limits - unlimited memories and profiles, richer photo galleries and voice recordings, an extended family tree, the travel map, time capsules, interests, and the ability to bring in collaborators to help build an archive together. See our plans page for the full comparison.

If I cancel Plus, do I lose what I've already added?

No. Nothing is ever deleted because a subscription lapses. Everything you've already added stays exactly as it is and stays visible - the only change is that adding anything new beyond the free allowance pauses until you resubscribe. If you'd added 30 memories on Plus and later downgrade, all 30 stay exactly where they are; you'd just need Plus again to add a 31st. Anything you already sealed as a time capsule still arrives on its date, regardless of your plan when that day comes.

Can I get a refund for a part-used month?

As a rule, no - we don't refund the unused portion of a billing period. If you're a UK consumer and you're within 14 days of first subscribing, you may have a separate statutory right to cancel under UK consumer law regardless of this policy - contact us and we'll sort it out properly.

Your data

Can I get a copy of everything I've added?

Yes, at any time, from Settings - it's a genuine full copy, including your actual photos and recordings, not just a list of links.

What happens if I delete my account?

It's permanent - your account, every profile you manage, and everything attached to them (photos, recordings, everything) is fully removed, not just hidden.
